CHEYENNE, WY — A broad stretch of Wyoming is facing a hot, sunny Saturday, with several communities under heat advisories and a few northwest and north central locations also seeing stronger fire weather concerns. Forecasters expect patchy smoke in parts of the state as temperatures run from the mid 80s to the low 100s. Overnight conditions are expected to stay mostly clear to partly cloudy, with lows ranging from the upper 40s to the low 70s. The hottest readings are forecast in the Bighorn Basin and north central Wyoming, while Cheyenne and Laramie stay cooler but still warm.
Central And Southwest
In central Wyoming, Casper and Riverton are both under heat advisories from noon Saturday through tomorrow night. Casper is forecast to reach near 98 degrees with patchy smoke, while Riverton could hit 99 with similar conditions. Glenrock is also expected to be sunny and hot, with a high near 98, and Evanston in the southwest should top out near 92. Green River and Cokeville are among the southwest communities under heat advisories, with Green River near 96 and Cokeville near 94. Cokeville could also see wind gusts as high as 20 mph, while overnight lows in the region generally settle into the 50s and low 60s.
West And Northwest
Western Wyoming is also dealing with heat advisories, including Pinedale, Alpine and Big Piney. Pinedale is expected to be sunny and breezy with a high near 90 and gusts up to 23 mph, while Alpine could climb to 96 with gusts near 20 mph. Big Piney should reach about 91. In the northwest, Dubois and Jackson both have advisories, and each is forecast to stay sunny and breezy during the day. Dubois could see gusts to 24 mph and Jackson to 22 mph. Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park is also expected to stay sunny and breezy, with a high near 87 and gusts up to 24 mph.
Basin Heat Peaks
The Bighorn Basin is set up for some of the state’s highest temperatures. Thermopolis is forecast to reach 102 degrees, Cody near 100 and Lovell near 103, with all three under heat advisories from noon Saturday into tomorrow night. Cody is also expected to be breezy, with gusts as high as 23 mph, and Lovell could see gusts near 20 mph during the day. Overnight, those communities stay relatively warm, with lows in the mid 60s and some patchy smoke lingering in the evening or before midnight. Buffalo in north central Wyoming is also under a heat advisory, with a high near 97 and a low near 67. The combination of heat, smoke and wind will make outdoor activity more difficult in several areas.
Warnings And Evening Outlook
Wyoming’s most serious weather warnings are centered on Sheridan and Dayton, where an extreme heat warning runs from noon until midnight Saturday. Both communities also face a red flag fire warning beginning at midnight tonight. Sheridan is forecast to reach 103 degrees, while Dayton could climb to 101. Patchy smoke is expected before 3 p.m. in both places, and winds may become more noticeable overnight. Elsewhere, Gillette, Newcastle and Hulett stay sunny and warm in the northeast without advisories, while Cheyenne, Laramie and other southeast and south central towns remain sunny with highs mostly in the upper 80s to low 90s. Most areas should stay clear or partly cloudy overnight.
