Every year, Eagle Academy has many traditions to celebrate the young men of color who go here. But one of the biggest celebrations Eagle has for its senior class is Convocation. Convocation is the acknowledgment of success for the senior class. It allows the seniors to be represented as “on track” and ready for graduation in June. Convocation 2022 for the class of 2023 was like no other. The gym looked amazing as families and friends filed in. The music was amazing the decorations made the space look really special. The legacy walk, a new addition to convocation, gave the class of ’23 the most powerful and iconic convocation we have seen in years. During the legacy walk, Seniors walked with their new blazers up and down the 3rd and 4th floor hallways as students and staff cheered them on. The drumming and clapping made the environment even more exciting.

As a senior myself, Convocation was an experience like no other. It was amazing to see my mom and dad smiling and enjoying my moment with me. But seeing the families of all my Eagle brothers coming together was powerful. This celebration with all my brothers was a lifetime experience. In the moment, I felt blessed and grateful that I will be graduating in June, and I’ll have my brothers with me right by my side. Going up on stage and presenting the legacy book (where all Eagle graduates have signed their names) was a little nerve racking, but I was becoming part of a legacy. Eagle’s legacy. All in all, Convocation was a great way to wrap up 2022 and enter into our year of graduation 2023. It will definitely be remembered, and as soon as I leave Eagle I will be reminiscing about it.
